New Tandus Design Center Certified LEED Silver

The design team from ai3 maximized the character of the building’s truss and its redbrick texture throughout the design of the renovation. Keeping most of the existing structure intact, the finishes and color palette remained neutral so the redbrick would continue to provide richness to the space.

Calm Inner City Space

This is another inner-city space I don’t mind the look of (from Inside Out). I like how the stairs raise up over the plunge pool into the tropical garden. The day bed in the corner looks cosy as well!

Family Treasure

The dining room is paneled in native sweetgum, a domestic wood used throughout the home. Michelle Ridge’s mother purchased the silver set and candelabra in Germany, where her family was stationed after World War II. A large portrait of a woman in white holding a violin hangs above the breakfront.

Before Tom and Michelle Ridge bought their Tudor-style home, it had only changed hands once since it was built in 1933.

Art consultant Judy Weisman creates a harmonious backdrop for her carefully curated collection

In the living room, a metal tapestry by John Garrett dominates the wall opposite the sofa. Centered over the fireplace is a circular clay piece by Mary Roehm flanked by raku vessels by Gabrielle Koch and horizontal works of clay, wire and found objects by Gillian Lowndes. A Jim Partridge bench doubles as a coffee table. The sculpture on the pedestal is by Jean Pierre Larocque and the ceramic bowl on the glass table by Gary Schlappal.

Weisman created a gallery setting out of a dormer space on her second floor. Sunlight reveals the inner complexity of the wirework entitled Celestial Body by Lanny Bergner. Clay vessels in black and white by Mary Roehm create a rhythmic pattern on the wall. An organic piece by Lawson Oyekan completes the assemblage.
